Conor Benn not guilty

After nearly two years out of the ring in the UK, Conor Benn has announced he is finally able to fight, following his clearance by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) of any doping-related wrongdoing.

On social media, Benn expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support, saying, “Your support has never and will never go unnoticed.” As well as thanking his friends and family. He also hinted at a swift return to UK action, finishing the statement, “Who wants it next!?” Benn, whose current record stands at 23-0, is now positioned to make a strong comeback within the welterweight division.

The initial allegations claimed that Benn had tested positive for clomifene, a prohibited substance, in two separate doping tests prior to his highly anticipated match against Chris Eubank Jr. in 2022. Throughout this challenging period, Benn maintained his innocence, even relinquishing his British Boxing license. His stance received support from the WBC, which cited a plausible explanation involving the “overconsumption of eggs” as a potential source of the test result. In his social media post, Benn thanked Matchroom Boxing and Everlast for standing by him throughout the ordeal.

The case, which has been ongoing for over two years, saw a key turn in February 2023, when the World Boxing Council (WBC) cleared Benn of intentional doping. The NADP have today announced that the UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) case against Conor Benn had been dismissed. With the NADP “not comfortably satisfied” with the UKAD’s case. Despite Benn’s positive social media posts, UKAD has clarified they retain 21 days to appeal the NADP’s ruling.

Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, underlined the significance of Benn’s clearance, describing the legal battles over the past year as “horrendous.” Hearn now aims to help one of his top fighters return to the UK boxing scene. During his suspension, Benn continued his career overseas, securing licenses to fight in both Florida and Las Vegas. His last fight was held in Las Vegas against Peter Dobson, which Benn won by unanimous decision. Prior to that, on September 23, 2023, Benn defeated Rodolfo Orozco by unanimous decision in their 10-round contest in Orlando.

Benn over the last two years has been consistently linked to finally facing Eubank Jr. The fighter with whom this controversy initially began. The two most recently faced off in Saudi Arabia following Eubank’s victory over Kamil Szeremeta. Boxing fans will now be left excited for Conor Benn’s return to UK boxing.
