MUST WATCH: Fury Promises to Beat Usyk By Knockout at Press Conference
The Usyk Fury 2 press conference was a strange affair. Fury, the challenger, entered to Barbie Girl by Aqua. Shortly afterwards, Usyk, dressed as Agent 47 from the computer game ‘Hitman’ entered to Ave Maria.
When you get two huge names, both known for their quirky sense of humour, you can’t expect ‘normal’ can you?
Following the pleasantries on stage, a few words from the promoters, managers and oddly, Eddie Hearn, the attention turned to the boxers… and it was a stilted response. Barely a word from either fighter when it came to questions, almost as if neither man wanted to give anything away.
You expect that from Usyk. Thanks to a language barrier and a calm demeanour in press conferences, it wasn’t much we hadn’t seen before.
It was strange to see from Fury though, especially given he is usually known for his brash demeanour in press conferences.
Fury Promising Fireworks
What Fury’s behaviour even stranger is the fact that post conference, when the boxers broke to speak to the assembled media, Fury resorted to type, talking up his approach and promising a knockout victory. Speaking to Hook’d Boxing he said…
“If I knock him out then I can guarantee victory within these hands. If I don’t knock him out then I’m relying on someone else’s opinion to do it for me, and I always like to rely on myself rather than somebody else.”
There’s a lot to take away from the press conferences. Fury was the picture of respect during the conference, and it was only when he moved away from Usyk that he opened up in to his more usual style.
