The Undercard: How It Unfolded on Netflix

From controversy to absolute slug fest, the undercard to Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson had it all, with multiple world title fights read below to find out how some of the fights unfolded.

Neeraj Goyat vs Whindersson Nunes

This fight saw India’s Neeraj Goyat face off against Brazilian social media sensation Whindersson Nunes in a unique showdown. Goyat, a former Olympic boxer, demonstrated his technical superiority early on, landing more punches and controlling the centre of the ring. He dominated the first round, landing effective blows to both the body and head. Nunes held on, however, and despite leaving his head poorly defended, he appeared unfazed at the end of the round.

As round two began, Goyat once again took an aggressive approach. Nunes responded with increased activity, throwing more punches but struggling to connect effectively. With a minute remaining, Goyat trapped Nunes in a corner, unleashing a flurry of punches. Goyat’s showmanship was evident as he played to the crowd, raising his hands to their cheers. Nunes survived the round but appeared hurt.

Round three saw Nunes adopt a more aggressive stance, with Goyat looking slightly fatigued and more defensive. Nunes landed some strong punches, appearing dangerous. However, Goyat regained momentum, landing jabs and hooks. The moment of the fight came when Goyat cornered Nunes and humped him, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The fight became more intense in round four. Goyat’s jabs and hooks displayed power, visibly rocking Nunes on several occasions. Round five followed a similar pattern, with Goyat dominating while Nunes showed resilience, landing a few punches and enduring Goyat’s relentless attack. The final round concluded in much the same way, with the fighters embracing at the end. Goyat secured a well-deserved victory by unanimous decision. During the fight Goyat landed 171 punches on Nunes, in comparison to Nunes who only landed 87.

Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos (WBA Super Lightweight Title)

In a bout that promised and delivered high drama, Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos squared off in an action-packed clash. Barrios, a former WBA super lightweight champion and the current WBC Welterweight Champion, defended his title against challenger Abel Ramos, who entered the fight with a record of 28-6-2.

Round 1 saw Barrios land a stunning straight right hand, momentarily wobbling Ramos, who’s knee touched the canvas, but the referee didn’t give it as a knockdown. However, Ramos recovered quickly and urged Barrios on. The round continued without major incident, with both fighters showcasing the aggression characteristic of their styles.

The slugfest resumed in the second round as Barrios landed impressive combinations, while Ramos countered with several powerful shots. Barrios’s jab proved effective, and the fight’s first knockdown came when he landed a precise right hook. Ramos immediately bounced back up, saved from further punishment by the bell. In Round 3, Barrios, now ahead on points, maintained control, though Ramos fought back with some strong combinations. By this stage, Barrios had landed 30 punches to Ramos’s 26.

Round 5 followed a similar pattern, but Round 6 saw Ramos knock down Barrios with a massive right hand. Barrios beat the count, but Ramos pressed on with a vengeance, chasing Barrios around the ring. Saved by the bell, Barrios retreated to his corner visibly shaken. Ramos landed 26 punches in this round alone and dominated Round 7, consistently tagging Barrios with his right hand and landing precise one-twos.

Barrios began to rally in Round 8, landing several shots early, but Ramos hurt him again towards the end of the round with some excellent punches while pinning him in the corner. Barrios regained momentum in Rounds 9 and 10, landing powerful shots on Ramos. By Round 10, both fighters were covered in blood—both their own and each other’s. The round ended with a dramatic exchange of heavy blows on the bell.

The final two rounds were thrilling, with both boxers leaving everything in the ring. Bloodied but relentless, they traded punch after punch in a contest worthy of a world title. After the final bell, both fighters showed great respect for one another. Bloodied and swollen, the outcome was left to the judges. The judges were split and a draw was a fair outcome of an incredible fight.

Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor II

Amanda Serrano sought revenge against Katie Taylor in a highly anticipated rematch. Having first faced off in 2022, this joint main event was undoubtedly the crown jewel of the undercard. Both fighters started fiercely, with Taylor landing a sharp counter in the corner, while Serrano controlled the centre of the ring, landing significant shots. The round ended with a brutal flurry from Serrano, including a powerful overhand left that hurt Taylor. The bell prevented Serrano from capitalising on the moment.

The next two rounds saw Serrano as the more dominant boxer, although Taylor managed to land a few notable blows. In Round 4, the intensity increased as the fighters exchanged relentless punches. Taylor accidentally cut Serrano above the eye with a headbutt, resulting in heavy bleeding. Taylor dominated the final moments of the round, connecting effectively with overhand rights. The fight was briefly paused in Round 6 as Serrano’s gash worsened, requiring a doctor’s inspection to ensure she could continue.

In Round 7, Taylor displayed her impressive hand speed, but Serrano countered effectively, forcing Taylor onto the defensive. Despite significant blood loss from the gash above her eye, Serrano continued to battle valiantly. Taylor began targeting Serrano’s injured right side in Round 8, worsening the bleeding and impairing Serrano’s vision. Taylor was penalised a point for repeated headbutts in this round, which added to the tension.

Round 9 turned into a slugfest, with both fighters trading relentless blows. With no clear winner heading into the final round, Serrano demonstrated remarkable grit and determination just to remain in the fight. Round 10 was an all-out war, with both fighters abandoning defence in pursuit of a knockout. They swung ferociously, leaving everything in the ring. The fight concluded with the decision resting in the hands of the judges. One of the best ever women fights was concluded as the judges unanimously gave Katie Taylor the victory, to remain the undisputed champion. The decision was met by immediate controversy both by the commentators and on social media.
