Daniel Dubois Joins The Growing List Of Fighters To Call Out Jake Paul
IBF Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dubois has called out Jake Paul following Paul’s controversial victory against 57-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson. Dubois, fresh off a victory over Anthony Joshua to secure the IBF title, messaged Paul on Instagram, asking, “How would you feel fighting for the legitimate heavyweight championship of the world?” Paul responded, “Get in line.”
Paul later leaked their exchange on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “F*ck it…I’m going to have Nakisa talk to Frankie Warren and get you in line for the throne. Unlike Artur, at least you have a few thousand fans.” Dubois now joins a growing list of fighters—including Artur Beterbiev, Francis Ngannou, Gervonta Davis, and Ryan Garcia—who have challenged the influencer-turned-boxer.
The call-out follows Jake Paul’s victory over Mike Tyson, a fight that received widespread criticism. At 57, Tyson appeared a shadow of his former self, struggling with balance, while Paul coasted to an easy win. Critics argue that Paul needs to prove himself against fighters in their prime. Though he has called out boxers like Canelo on social media, Paul faces mounting challenges from legitimate world-class fighters eager to test his skills. A serious bout against a reigning champion like Dubois would signify a major step away from influencer boxing.
Dubois, meanwhile, continues to establish himself as a dominant force in the heavyweight division. At just 26, he is in his prime and holds an impressive record of 22-2, with 21 wins by knockout. After defeating Joshua for the IBF title, Dubois is eyeing even bigger challenges, such as the winner of Fury vs. Usyk, a rematch with Joshua, or a potential Wembley showdown with Fabio Wardley.
In contrast, Paul’s boxing résumé has largely been built on opponents with limited or declining boxing experience, UFC and MMA fighters such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and older legends like Anderson Silva and Tyson. Paul’s only defeat in fact, came against Tommy Fury, brother of Tyson Fury, a fighter who is a similar age and in his boxing prime.
Whether Dubois’ challenge leads to an actual fight remains to be seen. However, Paul’s win over Tyson has thrust him further into the boxing spotlight, where he now has his pick of world-class opponents. If Paul is serious about transitioning from influencer boxing to a legitimate career in the sport, facing an active world champion like Dubois—or any other prime contender—would be a crucial next step.
